GOVERNMENT has implored the church to play a leading role in curtailing drug and substance abuse among the youth.
Addressing thousands of Archbishop Paul Mwazha-led African Apostolic Church gathering during its holy communion service at Mapembe Shine in Odzi today, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said drug and substance abuse among the youth has become a major cause for concern.
Minister Mutsvangwa said Government expects the church to play a pivotal role in instilling good moral values among the youth and promote anti-drug and substance abuse behaviour.
“Drug and substance abuse among the youth has become a major cause for concern. We are losing a generation owing to drug and substance abuse. It is against this background that we, as Government, implore the church to help in the fight against drug and substance abuse. In fact, the church has always been influential in teaching good moral values; hence the need for the church to play a leading role in the fight against drug and substance abuse,” she said.
Minister Mutsvangwa urged attendees during the same gathering to uphold peace and unity as the country goes towards the 2023 election season.
