The Government has reiterated its commitment to work with the church to fight drug and substance abuse, to raise a new generation of young people who will positively contribute to national development.
The call was made by Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tino Machakaire during a youth career day organised by the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Mazowe.
Speaking to hundreds of youths who had gathered for the career day, Minister Machakaire urged the younger generation to stay engaged in productive activities as a way to avoid drugs.
“This event aligns with His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe’s vision, Vision 2030, that of achieving an upper-middle-income society by 2030,” he said.
“By actively participating in these programmes, you can acquire practical skills, develop leadership qualities and become key contributors to the economic and social progress of Zimbabwe.”
The event brought together academics, business people, pastors, senior government officials, and community leaders for the mentorship programme.
“I would like to commend the Seventh Day Adventist Church for this exemplary role it has played in organising this career day,” he said.
“The Church has created a platform that brings together professionals from diverse fields to share their knowledge and experiences with young people.
“Through such initiatives, students are inspired to dream bigger, make informed decisions and understand the importance of serving others while pursuing their chosen careers. Events like this demonstrate the impact of collaboration between the community, institutions and national development goals.”
Minister Machakaire also implored the youth to embrace every opportunity, saying they play a key role in achieving the aspirations of a prosperous nation.
“Your talents and aspirations are vital to the realisation of Vision 2030 and by taking advantage of programmes offered by both the government and institutions like the SDA you can chart a path of meaningful success and service to our nation. Each of you has a unique calling and path.”
Air Vice Marshal Biltim Chingono, the Air Force of Zimbabwe’s (AFZ) Chief of Staff (Operations), who was also in attendance, spoke and praised the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church for its community work.
He recounted being saved from Covid-19 at the Arundel hospital facility, a healthcare centre operated by SDA elder Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
