A Glen Norah church on Monday, lost US$ 4,000 and other currencies to robbers.

ZAOGA FIF Glen Norah A assembly had collected the money from worshippers for a conference.

Four men armed with iron bars, wearing balaclavas masks were reported to have pounced at the place of worship at around 1 am.

A security guard Patrick Matope, 60, was relaxing in a parked vehicle at the premises when the robbers surrounded him. He was forced to march to the church’s four-roomed cottage occupied by two families.

The family members were assaulted and lost their cell phones before the robbers broke into a church office and stole the money.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.

“Police are investigating a robbery case at a church in Glen Norah,” said Insp Chakanza.

“The robbers, armed with iron bars got away with cash and cellphones,” said Insp Chakanza.

Some church members who spoke to H-Metro were quick to suspect that some wolves in sheep’s skin were behind the robbery.

“Robbers are not prophets, this case showed us that there are some church members working hand in glove with criminals.

“Maybe one of our members was aware of the cash collected and where it is kept.

“It is so frightening when we have wolves in sheep’s skin among us,” said one of the church members.
