THE church has been called to take a pro-active role in fighting against the continued rise of suicide cases.
The call was made by Jehovah’s Witness regional spokesperson Mr Mlaleli Nsikani as the church takes part in commemorating World Suicide Prevention Day which is on today.
The regional spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mr Mlaleli Nsikani, said there was a worrying trend where people were taking their lives, not just in Zimbabwe but worldwide, and urged the church to step up and join other stakeholders in fighting the rise in suicide cases.
He said as a church they would be sharing helpful information and biblical verses that could assist the communities in the fight against the urge to commit suicide.

“As we commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day today, there is increased focus on suicide prevention and as a church, we saw it fit to introduce practical ways to help people who may be enduring difficult times,” said Mr Nsikani.
He said they have been participating yearly through sharing practical tips that help those who might experience suicidal thoughts.
“This year we won’t be having an event. Since the World Suicide Day is an opportunity to have conversations about suicide and its prevention, we chose to share some helpful insights on suicide with the communities. We believe the information has helped many especially those who struggle with suicidal thoughts and those with family or friends struggling with such tendencies.”
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is an awareness day that is observed on 10 September every year and it aims to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities having been taken up around the world since 2003.
