A 54-year-old Central Intelligence Officer (CIO) based in Gweru who allegedly teamed up with six people to beat up a soldier and robbed him of $300, was yesterday remanded to January 5 for continuation of trial.

Andrew Dumba of Mkoba village 9, who is appearing before Tendai Madanire, has pleaded not guilty to robbery.

For the state Kelvin Guveya told the court that on November 15 this year at around 6PM, Dennis Manyongori a member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) stationed at 5th Brigade in Kwekwe was trying to relieve himself near Dumba’s office when he was grabbed by six male adults.

Guveya said the six men allegedly dragged the complainant to Dumba’s office.

The court heard that Dumba then assaulted Manyongori using a plank and a broom stick all over his body. Guveya said Dumba allegedly asked the complainant to put all the money he had on the floor and Manyongori produced $300 which was in $100 notes.

Dumba ordered the complainant to leave using the back door.

The court heard that Manyongori then made a report to the police leading to Dumba’s arrest.

Guveya said Dumba’s six accomplices are on the run.

Manyongori was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged.
