Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) have said they are fully supporting President Emmerson Mnangagwa as he assumes the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) at the upcoming summit.
In an interview, CAES president Mr Martin Zharare said they were optimistic about Zimbabwe’s future under Mnangagwa’s leadership of the regional bloc.
“We are excited about President Mnangagwa’s SADC chairmanship. Zimbabwe has been eagerly anticipating this summit,” said Mr Zharare.
“We are aware of attempts to undermine the event and we want to assure the President of our unwavering support. The people of Zimbabwe overwhelmingly voted for him and want to see him succeed in this role.”
Mr Zharare said they believe that Zimbabwe’s chairmanship of SADC will accelerate development across various sectors, including industry, mining, agriculture, and healthcare.
He said lifting the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western countries would significantly amplify the positive impact of President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
“We have witnessed remarkable infrastructural development and growth in the agricultural sector, thanks to the construction of new dams,” Mr Zharare said.
“Imagine the progress we could achieve without the burden of sanctions. The introduction of the gold-backed currency has stabilized our economy, and these positive developments are gradually eroding the impact of sanctions.”
CAES remains committed to advocating for the removal of sanctions, which are hindering Zimbabwe’s economic progress.
