THE Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has recalled a batch of Citro Soda sachets after potential contamination was detected.
The affected batch, C134584, of Citric Acid/Sodium Citrate/Bicarbonate/Tartaric Acid 702/613/858/171mg was manufactured by Adcock Ingram Limited at its Clayville, South Africa plant.
The recall follows an inspection by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), which found foreign material contamination in the batch.
MCAZ said consumption could result in harm to patients.
In a circular, MCAZ director-general Mr Richard Rukwata urged all licensed pharmacies, wholesalers, public and private clinics and hospitals to quarantine affected units and cooperate with Adcock Ingram and local distributors during the recall.
Mr Rukwata also advised members of the public who purchased the batch to return it to the pharmacy where it was obtained.
“The Authority would like to draw the attention of all licensed wholesalers, pharmacies, public and private clinics and hospitals to the fact that they should quarantine any of the affected units,” he said
“The general public who might have purchased the same reported batch are advised to return the product.”
Mr Rukwata said the recall was part of ongoing measures to protect public health and ensure potentially harmful products are removed from circulation.
Consumers have been urged to check batch numbers carefully and follow official instructions on medicine recalls.
