BUSINESSMAN Aleck Dzepatsva has been dragged to court facing car theft charges after he allegedly stole a car worth US$91 000 in South Africa.
Dzepatsva appeared before magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa.
He was represented by Malvern Mapako. He was released on US$600 bail and was ordered to report three times a week at CID Vehicle Theft Squad.
He was also ordered to surrender his passport and to stay at his given address until the matter is finalised.
The court heard that on April 25, Dzepatsva, in connivance with accomplices who are still at large, allegedly stole a Ford Everest, registration number JACEGP, in Pretoria South Africa. He allegedly then smuggled the car into Zimbabwe and took it to Harare where he tempered with the chassis number and removed the registration number plates so as to change the identity of the motor vehicle. He allegedly went on to sell the car to Asante Branson.
Branson took it to Chris Tatenda Kwaramba at Auto Expo Car Sale, 19704 Cleverand Road, Milton Park, Harare from whom it was recovered on July 27, after it was traced through a fitted tracking device.
The car is valued at US$91 700.
