“We have enough water treatment chemicals to run until the tender process has been completed by the State Procurement Board,” he said.
“We have never supplied water that has not been treated. After the new regulations on our procurement were introduced we wrote a letter to the authorities informing them that we would continue to purchase chemicals until the tender process has been completed.
“We cannot wait for the SPB to conclude the process because this is water we are talking about of which our mandate is to make sure that we supply clean water. We are doing that and we continue to buy chemicals until a new supplier is awarded the tender.”
Mr Gwindi said the SPB was inevitably slow in adjudicating tender processes adding that local authorities would find it difficult to go through the board.
