BULAWAYO cyclists are gearing up for the final Zimbabwe 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Cycling Qualifiers to be held in Harare on Saturday. The race is going to be used to select the country’s representatives in the Afcon race in South Africa next February.

“We are ready, we have spent some reasonable time preparing for the race and I have confidence that a number of city riders will qualify for the final race in South Africa next year,” said Flying Eagles Cycling Club spokesperson Christopher Kazingizi.

He said they have been having morning practice races with the cyclists recording good times and in good shape.

“We have been training every morning, the guys seem to be in good shape and recording good times during practice,” said Kazingizi.

He said they have had other preparatory competitions and cyclists were in good condition.

“Times from previous major races that the cyclists clocked during the year will be considered but that should not stop the cyclists from training hard to record good times as both races will be considered in selecting the team to travel to South Africa,” he said

Kazingizi said there is a lot of competition especially from the men from Harare.

“It is going to be a tough race, the Harare guys are also preparing as we have been doing so we really have to make sure we are ready for the race,” he said.

Bulawayo boy Nkulumo Dube is among the favourites.
