“We are going to address a Press conference on Monday to articulate our agreed position,” said Mr Gwindi. “We have agreed with all stakeholders on the best way forward.”
At the bus ranks, the city team that comprises of municipal police and traffic enforcement officers is checking for rank discs and route permits.
ZRP officers are also visible at the ranks.
Kombis that do not have the necessary documents and those that use undesignated routes and drop and pick passengers at undesignated points are impounded.
A kombi driver, Gift Sibanda, who plies the City-Southerton route confirmed the municipal police were impounding non-compliant kombis.
He said the operators were now enjoying peace and were able to load their kombis without hassles.
“We are happy. There is now order,” he said.
A tour of the kombi ranks also showed vast improvements in the observation of law and of order.
The usual hassle and bustle was no longer there as commuters freely embark onto kombis of their choice without being shoved in and out.
The city is yet to erect structures like boom gates at the ranks.
Reporting to the full council recently, town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi said a crack team comprising of officers from urban planning services and municipal police had been put together.
He said the ZRP would continue to assist the city until the final handover of the ranks to council.
Dr Mahachi said 60 municipal police officers would be transferred to the traffic enforcement division to work at ranks.
