THE City of Harare (CoH) employees are up in arms with their employer over their demands of getting a foreign currency incentive.

The employees are arguing that they also need a cushion.

City of Harare Human Resources Committee chairperson, Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe, said they are faced with a difficult situation as they cannot access foreign currency.

“We have made efforts to approach relevant authorities to allow CoH to charge embassies and other institutions, which have easy access to foreign currency, in forex.

“However, our efforts have been fruitless.”

Kadzombe said the situation could result in a brain drain.

“We are faced with an impossible situation which, if not attended to, may result in a massive brain drain.

“We are appealing to the relevant authorities to allow us to charge in foreign currency to those who can pay it so that we can try and manage this situation.

“We want to keep our workers, who are currently not happy at all, as Government workers are getting a USD incentive.”
