Clr Musarurwa Mutizwa said recycling was important in efforts that were aimed at addressing the garbage crisis facing the city. “We have moved a step further on issues that are bedevilling this city. The only solution is to go the recycling route and to tackle it at source,” he said.
The colour coding of the bin linings was endorsed by Environmental Management Agency. Colour-coded trash bins were brightly coloured containers in different sizes which were meant to make it easier to separate waste before it is recycled.
Under the BIN-it anti-littering campaign, green bins would be used for plastic, red for glass, blue for cans, yellow for paper and black for general waste.
“We support this noble initiative. It will help us to achieve our mandate,” said Mr Shepherd Maraga of EMA.
