LUVEVE Stadium will tomorrow witness another top notch Southern Region League derby pitting log leaders Bulawayo City and third placed Bantu Rovers. It’s the third city derby in as many weeks following a Bulawayo City and Bulawayo Chiefs duel that was won by the municipal boys 1-0.
Bantu Rovers then dented second placed Chiefs’ hopes of cutting City’s lead when they drew 0-0.
The Chiefs and Tshintsha Guluva stalemate saw City open a five-point lead after they prevailed 2-0 over bottom placed Mpumalanga in Hwange.
Rovers’ coach Johannes Ngodzo said his boys were unfazed despite the fact that City is star-studded and has a number of players with Premiership experience.
“To us, this is just another league match in the campaign. We didn’t come up with any special training methods because we are playing City. It’s just like how we always prepare even though we respect them for who they are,” said the former Highlanders star midfielder.
He said his side will be missing four key players through injury, but had able replacements.
Asked about their championship chances, Ngodzo said: “From game number one, we’ve always focused on that and Sunday’s game will not be different. We look at each game as it comes but we’re always aware of the objective, which is the championship,” said Ngodzo.
Championship contenders Chiefs have a seemingly easy outing against Amagagasi at Fairbridge.
Chiefs can’t afford to drop points at this stage of the campaign and will be keenly following proceedings at Luveve Stadium. Casmyn take on Trumus after their last game was postponed last week due to a freak road accident on their way to Hwange.
Bekithemba Ndlovu’s Indlovu Iyanyathela are home to ZPC Hwange while the clash between Ntabazinduna and Hwange Under-20 has been postponed. Ntabazinduna are in Botswana.
