Juvenile, 15, up for baby dumping

A 15-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo girl has been arrested for allegedly dumping her one-year-old baby. The juvenile, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, allegedly dumped the infant in a bushy area in Emganwini suburb.

She appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa Marondedze facing a charge of exposing an infant.

Magistrate Msipa Marondedze placed the matter off remand while the state awaits the probation officer’s report.

The case will proceed by way of summons.

Prosecuting, Maria John said on August 10 at around 7PM, the juvenile proceeded to a bushy area near Rangemore Primary School where she dumped her baby girl.

“A passerby who was walking though the bush, saw the child and took her to Emganwini police base,” said John.

A police report was made, leading to the juvenile’s arrest.

The child was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention, the court heard.
