adminLaunched at the Great Zimbabwe over the weekend, Masvingo Development Association Trust (MDAT) seeks to complement Government and rural councils in developing infrastructure and improving people’s lives. The trust, which will operate as a business venture, also seeks to make sure the arid province fully utilises several idle dams to ensure food security. Speaking after the launch, the trust’s secretary-general Mr Ishmael Chikwenhere said the trust wanted to complement Government in bringing development to the province.
The trust, he said, was not going to rely on donor funds but would venture into business to generate revenue to fund developmental projects in Masvingo.
“We are not a charity case, we will not move around with a begging bowl asking for donations. We are going to venture into business starting companies in sectors such as mining and agriculture and even buying shares in already established companies to generate funds,” said Mr Chikwenhere.
Mr Chikwenhere said the trust would target sectors such as health, education, and agriculture among others for assistance.
