CPU appeals for funds

Several families in Zambara area had their houses destroyed while others were seriously injured in the disaster, which left many homeless. The CPU is battling to raise the funds to assist affected families.

CPU director, Mr Madzudzo Pawadyira on Tuesday said the affected families had not received assistance from the unit. He said they were still compiling details on what would be required and the amount of money needed to assist the victims.

“We are appealing for funds and we are verifying facts to determine how much would be required so that we do a thorough job,” he said.

Mr Pawadyira said there were possibilities that the families may have found temporary shelter from relatives.

“We expect NGOs to come in with assistance before Government because of the nature of their work,” he said.

“Some organisations are already into humanitarian work while others will first have to make assessments.”

Mr Pawadyira said the CPU team had visited the affected areas including flood prone areas to educate the communities on handling disaster.
