HARARE City Council is looking for an investor who can build a stadium in High Glen, Mayor Jacob Mafume has said.
He also said they were working towards refurbishing most of their major stadiums in Harare.
“We also have another stadium, which we want to build in High Glen, so if there is anyone who has money, who wants to build a stadium, we can give them the land for free because the land is there, we just need a serious investor,” he said.
Mafume said Gwanzura, Dzivaresekwa and Mabvuku stadiums will be renovated.
“We want to refurbish the stadiums in Harare so that they are playable like back in the day,” he said.
Mafume added that they were working on reviving council beer halls.
“Council beer halls were supported by Rufaro Marketing, which is our beer outlet, we own the biggest brewery at Rufaro Corner, which is being rented by Delta.
“We used to ban Chibuku from Harare tichitengesa Rufaro mhamba and then we entered into an agreement with Delta.
“We used to own most of the beer halls around town so the demise of these beer halls killed the entertainment industry because all the bands that were famous were residents at council bars.
“When we destroyed that concept, certain musicians and bands no longer had homes for them to play.
“We have taken Rufaro back and we hope to bring everything back to its former glory.
“We want the local beer halls to benefit the community.”
