MAN OFFERS EX-WIFE, FOUR KIDS US$20 IN MAINTENANCE

A HARARE man has offered his former wife, and their four kids, US$20 maintenance.

He said rentals which she collects from the properties they own will be enough to support her and their four children.

Madeline Mhlanga was seeking US$200 a month from her ex-husband Tatenda Dube.

The couple appeared at the Harare Civil Court yesterday.

Dube argued that his ex-wife should be able to maintain the family from what she collects in rentals from their two houses.

“I cannot afford the US$200 she is requesting. I can only give her US$20 to add to the one she is collecting from rentals because I have another family, which needs my support,” he said.

Mhlanga denied Dube’s claims and said she does not collect any rentals.

She told the court that when she fell ill last year, she had to sell one of the houses to pay for her medical treatment.

“I built those two houses on my own, I do not co-own them with my husband. He found me with those houses when we got married,” Mhlanga said.

Presiding magistrate Meenal Narotam, ordered Dube to pay US$88 per month, starting June 30, until the youngest of the children reaches the age of 18.
