City Rovers coaches flaws exposed

MEDIA-SHY Mutare City Rovers coaches’ technical shortcomings are being exposed with each passing week after the former head coach denied the media post match interviews in the opening match at Sakubva Stadium.

As if that was enough, Mutare City Rovers defender, Bonvolio Mkwena, vomited just five minutes before the end of the match against Harare City at Rufaro Stadium in Harare in a clear testimony of absurd feeding timetable for players.

Although media reports indicate that a club official said the player had been thrust into the first 11 while complaining of a nagging stomach ache, the fact that Mkwena vomited some solids five minutes from time was ample evidence that the player had a meal moments before the match as opposed to about a three-hour time frame expected of players to have meals before they get onto the pitch.

Premier Soccer League chief executive, Kenny Ndebele, said he was shocked to see the player vomiting solids at that stage of the encounter.

“What we would have expected was that if the boy had some stomach problems, he should have vomited liquids. Players are expected to have meals about three hours before the match and when it is five minutes before the end of the match, surely one would not have any solids to vomit.

“This is was a clear exposure of the shortcomings of the technical department. This is why we always insist on getting qualified people to do particular jobs,” said Ndebele.

The respected, veteran football administrator, also said post match interviews were mandatory.

“Post match interviews are mandatory. If the coaches are denying journalists post match interviews then they are getting it wrong. It is actually punishable if proven that the coaches are deliberately not giving interviews to the media after matches,” said Ndebele.

Neither Kenny Kachara nor his assistant, Ephraim Masakure spoke to the media after the match against Ngezi Platinum at Sakubva Stadium and the two coaches also delegated the team manager, Isaac ‘Zeka’ Nengomasha to speak to the media after the match against Harare City at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Saturday..
