None of Mutare City Rovers coaches have the requisite Caf A Licence, nor at least Caf B Licence at a time when Zifa announced that they will from this year be strict with the standard requirements for football coaches at all levels. MUTARE City Rovers will seek audience with the country’s soccer mother body, Zifa, to persuade them to allow the municipality outfit to proceed with their chosen coaches – Kenny Kachara and Ephraim Masakure – while the club make steps to ensure that the duo gets required qualifications before the end of the season.
None of Mutare City Rovers coaches have the requisite Caf A Licence, nor at least Caf B Licence at a time when Zifa announced that they will from this year be strict with the standard requirements for football coaches at all levels.
Through the association’s technical director, Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, Zifa recently announced they had raised the bar to permit only those with CAF A Licence to sit on the Premiership bench as part of a cocktail of interventions to improve the quality of the game in Zimbabwe.
The Zifa technical director said the move was a basic requirement under the much murmured about CAF Club Licencing system.
However, Mutare City Rovers publicist, Clayton ‘Baggio’ Masekesa told Post Sport that they would forward their request to be allowed to use Kachara to Zifa as he would be undergoing CAF B coaching course in August.
“Our coach holds the CAF C coaching certificate. Now, Zifa has come up with a new dimension that requires that the Premier League teams should have CAF A licence and this announcement came as a surprise to us as we were caught unawares.
“However, as Mutare City Rovers we have undertaken to have negotiations with the mother body regarding the issue. We will forward our request to be allowed to use the coach as he will soon undergo for a CAF B course in August so that he gets the CAF B to sit on the bench.
“I therefore want to assure our fans out there that they should not panic as we are in the process of having talks with the ZIFA technical committee.
“I hope they will entertain our plea taking into consideration that Kachara has been with the team throughout the preparations and that he has already assembled his final squad.
“So we feel that bringing a new coach will jeopardise the whole football process and also be an issue of grave inconvenience on our part. We hope that ZIFA will look into our matter favourably.
“In the event that ZIFA refuses to accept our proposal, then we have no choice, but to appoint a new coach with the CAF A licence. He will work closely with Kachara,” said Masekesa.
Jongwe said for one to be head coach in the Premier Soccer League, they have to be holders of the CAF A Licence, while assistant coaches should be CAF B or CAF C.
Goalkeepers’ coaches in the Premier Soccer League are now required to have a CAF Licence and a goalkeeper coaching certificate..
