D Block unleashes album

ONE of the products of Courtauld Theatre Hip Hop Movement, Derrick Chambarara, popularly known as D Block, has joined the mainstream Hip Hop genre by releasing a complete lyrically rich album titled Black Man. The Dangamvura-based singer, who ventured into music three years ago, has been releasing single tracks and specialising on collaborations partnering most of local rappers.

The new album which was expected to hit the streets this week carries tracks that inspire youths to work hard and desist from engaging in social ills such as prostitution and drug abuse.

“Hip Hop nights at Courtauld Theatre have moulded us to become mature and better artistes. I am getting better with time like wine. My new album is enough testimony that I am no longer a novice. I am slowly becoming a star because of hard work and perseverance. I am encouraging fellow youths to be industrious and innovative to earn a living,” he said.Tracks on the album include Shanda, Simba mukaka rino simira, Dai waiziva, Pafunge zvakadzama and Rugare tange nhamo.

Since venturing into music, D Block has released 12 singles, among them, Gold and Madzitateguru. In November last year, he released Tiripahasha.

The youthful singer started singing while doing Grade six at Dangamvura Primary School.

D Block said that he draws his inspiration from reputable rappers Kritic Igwe, C Beech and Flexxo.

“These lads have played a critical role in shaping my career.

We inspire each other to be better musicians and I am grateful. My mother has also been very supportive,” said the musician.
