Harare Town Clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango has urged district officers to come up with strategies that will increase revenue collection and explore new ways to boost revenue.

Addressing the officers at a capacity-building workshop in the city last week, Eng Chisango said council was putting in place systems to plug revenue leakages.

“I would like to encourage you to innovate and come up with strategies to increase revenue collection and to explore new revenue streams,” he said.

Eng Chisango said new strategies that have been implemented in saome sections had enhanced revenue collection.

He met with city market officers and also emphasised the need for hard work and enhanced revenue collection.

He said markets should be the council’s cash cow.

Projections are that markets should bring in more than $600 000 every week.

Eng Chisango challenged market officers to be innovative and implement new strategies that bring in revenue and improve the status of the markets.

This comes after the Harare City Council is now in the process of coming up with a supplementary budget aimed at enabling the local authority to meet its expenditure under the prevailing economic environment.

The city had originally budgeted $472,2 million.
