City Sports Bar in Harare is known for the popular Jam Session that brings together musicians of various tastes, but the venue will go for a separate market when it introduces “Afribean Reggae Night” programme tonight with a number of artistes of the genre converging to launch their session. Popular reggae outfits Hotta Fyah, Transit Crew and House of Stone will launch the project tonight with a show that will feature many reggae chanters.Mannex, Jay Fari, Cello Culture, Nadine Brown, Ras Caleb, Jah Warrior, Junior Bantan, Logmith, Jah Bless, Jimmy Wailer, I-Watta and Gullis Kush will be part of the launch and they will take turns to entertain guests at the party.
City Sports Bar manager Mathias Bangure said the event would bring together reggae fans, most of whom were missing the mid-week reggae parties that used to characterise the capital’s entertainment programme.
“We have realised that there is a gap in terms of midweek events that cater for reggae lovers. Reggae music has multitudes of followers and I have been in their circles for sometime. They have been waiting for a convenient venue where they can meet and enjoy their favourite music and we are happy to announce that City Sports Bar will be their place every Thursday,” said Bangure.
“The artistes are also happy to have such a platform to meet with their fans weekly. Most of the entertainers on the programme are talented chanters that have been in the industry for a long time and they will obviously take the programme as a platform to take their careers to a higher level.”
Bangure said the reggae nights would host different musicians every week and they have put in place exciting facilities for reggae fans that would attend the sessions.
He said they would periodically review the programme in consultation with fans in order to avoid monotony.
