HARARE City are the winners of the country’s most prestigious club football competition, the Chibuku Super Cup after their victory over Dynamos in the final stage at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The win was sweet reward for the David Kutyauripo captained City who lost in last year’s final on penalties to FC Platinum under controversial circumstances.  For their efforts, the Sunshine Boys pocketed $75 000 while Dynamos got $50 000.

Goals in either half from Francisco Zekumbawira and William Manondo were enough to give City the win while Dynamos got their consolation in injury time from substitute striker Ralph Kawondera.

Dynamos were the first to show attacking intent in the seventh minute, a good block from Themba Ndlovu denied Ronald Chitiyo a short on target after it had been sent through by Blessing Moyo. Two minutes later, Takesure Chinyama saw his grounder go wide off the posts.

Heavily built striker Zekumbawira failed to punish Dynamos in the 13th minute as his effort from close range sailed over the posts. Ndlovu came to his team’s rescue again in the 17th minute when he disturbed Chinyama when the veteran striker had broken free but the former Dynamos defensive rock forced him into an error to earn Harare City a goal kick.

Harare City took the lead in the 18th minute, Zekumbawira putting the ball beyond the reach of Tatenda Mukuruva after being put through by Talent Chawapihwa. Zekumbawira was given all the time by the Dynamos defence to turn inside the box and used his left foot to poke the ball past Mukuruva.

Moyo went for goal in the 31st minute, his shot going over the bar. Two minute after, Crispen Dickson nearly caught Mukuruva off guard with his dipping attempt going over.

Referee Philani Ncube, his assistants Salani Ncube and Brighton Nyika were pelted with missiles by angry Dynamos fans as they were finding their way into the changing room at halftime.

In the second half, Dynamos bombarded the City goal but got nothing out of all their efforts. Harare City midfielder Tandai Samanja had his attempt go over in the 65th minute. With 10 minutes to go Maxwell Nyamupangedengu produced a great save off a Moyo grounder with the keeper pushing it out for a corner.

Manondo sealed it off in the 83rd minute, capitalising on a Martin Vengesayi attempt which cannoned off the bar with the substitute doing well to bring the ball back into the box for an unmarked Manondo to score his fifth goal of the competition.

Dynamos had their consolation from Kawondera four minutes into injury time from a corner kick.
Soon as Ncube blew the final whistle, he was mobbed by fuming Dynamos players and it took the timely intervention of the police to restrain them.
