CITY Parking, a company set up by Harare City Council recently to collect parking fees, has expanded the Central Business District area for the purposes of collecting parking fees on roads bordering the city.
In a notice to the motorists yesterday, City Parking said the CBD area had been expanded to the West up to Rekayi Tangwena, to Enterprise Road to the East, Tongogara Avenue to the North and Kenneth Kaunda to the south.
What this means is that car owners who park on Rekayi Tangwena, Enterprise Road, Tongogara Avenue and Kenneth Kaunda would have to pay.
City Parking is also introducing a two tier tariff for parking in the CBD area.
According to the company, motorists parking their vehicles in the central CBD area incorporating Rotten Row to the West, Fourth Street to the East, Herbert Chitepo Avenue to the North and Kenneth Kaunda to the west will pay a dollar per hour.
“The peripheral CBD area incorporates all the area outside the central CBD area, but within the boundaries of the new expanded CBD area of Harare,” said the company.
“Those parking their vehicle in the peripheral CBD area will pay 50 cents per hour.”
Motorists have been complaining over parking fees which are being charged by City Parking in the CBD.
The motorists said the charge of a dollar per hour was too high and some were resorting to using public transport saying they could not afford nearly US$180 per month in parking fees.
