THE City of Harare has said it is committed to handing over one of its sports clubs to ZIFA for the association to build their national headquarters.
The City of Harare is also committed to give ZIFA the land in High Glen, where they intended to build a stadium, for the association to build their own stadium.
This was revealed by Mayor Jacob Mafume after a meeting with ZIFA boss Nqobile Magwizi and his board in Harare yesterday.
The City of Harare owns virtually all the sports clubs in the capital.
It leases them to the club’s members.
“We are going to be significantly investing in soccer issues,” said Mafume.
“Our commitment as a city is that we will avail one of our sports clubs, which we will name in due course, for the building of the Headquarters of ZIFA.
“It will go through the committees tomorrow (today) and so forth.
“We are also keen to avail to ZIFA one of our sports grounds which we wanted to develop, which is the 40 hectare High Glen Stadium which is in our masterplan and has been in the works for a long time.
“We are willing to avail that piece of land to ZIFA.”
The City of Harare has already availed land in the capital for the PSL to build their headquarters.
