IN the week that the Warriors will again be forced to host their World Cup assignment in South Africa, a Tanzanian club wants Scottland to use their stadium as a model for the stadium which the Premiership newboys want to build in Harare.
AZAM have a compact 10,000 seater stadium in Dar es Salaam.
It was approved by FIFA to host international matches like the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers.
AZAM CEO Abdulkarim Nurdin invited Scottland to come and view the AZAM Sports Complex and see if they can use the model to develop their own stadium.
The letter reads:
“Your Team Manager Mr Tawanda Chidzidzi has been in contact with Mr George Deda an agent whom we have worked with over the years with a view of touring Azam Sports Complex.
“We have been made aware of your intentions of building a similar sports complex in Harare Mabvuku.
“Azam Sports Complex is a FIFA /CAF approved sports complex with a seating capacity of 10,000 people and has a gym and swimming facilities as well as canteen and apartments for camping.
“Over the years it has hosted CAF and FIFA games both at club and international level.
“We are pleased to host your EXCO members. Travel and accommodations expenses will be borne by the visiting team.
“Once again we welcome you with open arms.”
A Nigerian reviewer of the stadium wrote:
“This should serve as a pacesetter to other clubs in Nigeria and Africa, they do not need to build stadiums they know would be expensive to maintain them, they need to start building complex stadiums like this one at AZAM.
“In Nigeria we have two stadiums similar to this but can never come close.
“I think we can do well in Africa by building stadiums that are not too large for maintenance purpose.”
