Their remarks come after touring Chiadzwa diamond mining fields last week.
Addressing a press conference in Harare on Friday, Kimberley Process Civil Society Coalition Representatives in Zimbabwe said there was need for the Government to allow its members based in Mutare to visit the mining fields anytime they wanted.
“This was a guided tour. We didn’t have the flexibility of finding out some of the things we wanted,” said Crisis Coalition in Zimbabwe acting programmes officer Mr Nixon Nyikadzino.
National Association of Non Governmental Organisations chief executive officer, Mr Cephas Zinumwe concurred with Mr Nyikadzino saying they were being guided making it difficult for them to pick some of the vices.
“We wanted unfetted tour for members who are there because most of the areas we visited we were being guided,” he said.
Mr Zinumwe urged other mining companies at Chiadzwa to emulate Marange Resources in being transparent. He said other companies except Marange Resources had not been open as with regards to the quantities and quality of gems mined.
They said there was need to improve the issues of transparency and accountability on production data, revenues generated and allocation of mining rights.
