A ZESA employee who, early this year, was filmed using a hacksaw to cut the padlock on a Tendy Three Investments (TTI) clamping device, which had been placed on his vehicle—a white single-cab pickup—after it allegedly violated city parking by-laws, breathed a sigh of relief after the state withdrew theft charges before plea due to lack of evidence.
Patson Maseko appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate, Mr Maxwell Ncube, on Wednesday morning, represented by his lawyer, Mr Thulani Ndlovu of Ndlovu Legal Practice.
The state, represented by prosecutor Ms Nkanyezi Xaba, had outlined that on 28 January, shortly after 10 AM at the corner of 11th Avenue and George Silundika Street, Maseko’s vehicle was clamped for parking in a restricted area.
It was alleged that Maseko used an unknown object to break the clamp and made off with it. The total value of the allegedly stolen clamping device is US$250.The state withdrew the case due to lack of evidence.
In a video that went viral on social media, Maseko is spotted assaulting the TTI enforcement marshal. The same footage captured him using a hacksaw to cut a padlock on a clamping device attached to his vehicle
