The Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre in Bulawayo was the place to be on Sunday as its Produce Hall played host to the second edition of the “Private School” event. Dedicated exclusively to old-school music, this event aimed to transport attendees back in time with soul, RnB, and hip-hop classics.
Kicking off in the afternoon, the event attracted a mature crowd that came out in groups, dressed for the occasion, to enjoy an evening of nostalgia and good vibes. Upon arrival, guests were handed packs of cards, a thoughtful touch that turned the event into an impromptu date night for many.
Tables soon became arenas for card games, sparking friendly challenges and fostering a spirit of unity among the attendees. Adding to the fun, patrons were allowed to bring their own cooler boxes for a nominal fee, while numerous food and drink stalls offered a range of refreshments.
The affordable pricing for alcohol further enhanced the experience, making it easy for everyone to enjoy themselves without breaking the bank. The highlight of the day was the music. DJs were carefully selected and scheduled to maintain the perfect atmosphere throughout the event.
Emity Smooth and Possenti Sikosana set the stage with mellow RnB tunes, while DJs Bryce, DJ Klasiq, Kead Wikead, Prince Eskhosini and Ras Obi kept the energy high.
DJ Nospa closed the night with a captivating mix of Urban Grooves tunes. A state-of-the-art stage with dazzling lighting effects kept the crowd engaged, adding to the overall excitement of the event.
Despite the low temperatures, event organisers ensured patrons stayed warm with strategically placed gas heaters throughout the venue. Patrons praised the organisers for their efforts, with Nozipho Dube expressing enthusiasm for the experience.
“It was my first time attending the event and I totally enjoyed it. The vibe was amazing, with great people and great music. What more can one ask for?” she said.
DJ Prince Eskhosini echoed the sentiment, commending the event’s success.
“The event was super! It was fire. I loved the clean crowd and the event’s co-ordination. It was fantastic to see the people of Bulawayo out to support an all-local DJs line-up,” he said.
One of the event organisers expressed gratitude for the turnout and support for the second edition of the event. “We’d like to thank the people of Bulawayo for their support. The event was introduced last year to bring back the charm of old-school music, and we’re thrilled to see it growing.
Our aim is to provide a platform for people to meet and interact while enjoying the best of music from the past,” they said.
Without a doubt, the Private School event was a memorable experience, with attendees eagerly anticipating the next edition.
