Clean environs for healthy lifestyles

MUTARE residents have been challenged to avoid littering and pollution because they harm nature, but maintain clean environs to help retain the city’s status as the jewel of the east.

Speaking on the sidelines of clean-up campaigns conducted at three bus termini in the city recently, Ocean Bird Foundation International administrator Mrs Thato Tlou said cleanliness is key in preventing diseases, especially in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and malaria.

She urged residents to conduct routine cleaning of their surroundings and make cleanliness a culture in both private and public spheres.

“Our objective as an organisation is to promote cleanliness, and we are calling everyone to action because it is our collective duty. Everyone is safe in a clean environment and this promotes healthy lifestyles,” said Mrs Tlou.

A fellow tutor at the institution, Mr Ezekiel Zwenyere, said cleanliness encourages environmental awareness.

He said clean communities safeguard humans, plants and animals from pollutants that can harm them.
