GEORGE CHIGOVA made his first appearance of the season for SuperSport United on Sunday and helped them keep a clean sheet for the first time in this campaign.
Matsatsansa held Orlando Pirates to a goalless draw.
Head coach Gavin Hunt gave the Zimbabwean his first appearance this season and he rewarded him with his first clean sheet since his return to the club.
SuperSport’s last clean sheet had last come in May, in a 2-0 win over Pirates.
They then drew 1-1 with Chippa United, lost 1-2 to Amazulu and 0-2 to TS Galaxy, in their first three matches, this season.
Hunt lamented his side’s finishing after claiming a point against Pirates.
SuperSport’s search for a first win of the season goes following Sunday’s stalemate at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
After the encounter, Hunt says he believes they had the best chances despite Pirates dominating possession.
“They are always going to have the ball, they can play all day, I never had my heart in my throat, only when we had the ball,” Hunt said on SuperSport TV.
“I mean the first minute we should have scored and I think we had another one, just tap-ins you know, one with a header and one there. It’s fairly disappointing but that has been the story of us in the last four games.
“Look, I don’t want to play like this every week but I said to them we’ll get our chances, we got one in the first minute, Bradley [Grobler] scores those in training with his eyes closed.
“But look at our team, a lot of young kids, they did well against a very experienced side, players who have won things before. The players did well, especially the younger ones.”
Hunt went on to explain a different approach which also focused on keeping Pirates wing-backs Deon Hotto and Thabiso Monyane in check.
“With Deon and the number two on the right hand side [Thabiso Monyane] both of them can catch pigeons, those two you know,” he said.
“So we had to protect it a little bit because they get behind you, so we kept them in front of us all night which I thought was good and we broke out a couple of times you know.
“We didn’t do so much on the right hand side but on the left we were very good but as I said we had to control the ball better in midfield and sometimes when you’re under pressure in midfield you have to bounce it off,” he continued.
“We didn’t bounce it off, they want to have an extra touch and then they got good players, you just have to look at their budget.” – Sports Reporter/KickOff.com
