A cleansing ceremony is on the cards at Nyangani High to rid the school of strange happenings linked to Satanism that rocked the school last month.

Pupils collapsed and became unconscious in the wake of strange happenings that left the community shell shocked.

The students only gained consciousness at the hospital.

During a stakeholder meeting held at the school last week, it was agreed that churches and traditionalists hold a cleansing ceremony to exorcise the evil spirits.

Fears abound that the strange happenings might affect exam sitting classes.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Hata expressed concern over the mishap saying it warranted some prompt action.

“These days wrist bands are being worn by our children and we don’t even know what they mean. Long ago they were called ‘ndarira’ and it would mean somebody had a ‘shavi’. We suggest that a cleansing ceremony takes place soon. If it does not work then a traditional ceremony (bira) will take place,” he said.
