Revenue Authority of more than US$100 000 by underpaying duty that was fully paid by his clients.
Bonyela Ncube (42) who has since appeared in court was not asked to plead to breaching sections of the Customs and Excise Act when he was arraigned before Harare magistrate Mr Shane Kubonera who remanded him in custody to today for bail application.
Prosecutor Ms Svodai Kadivirire alleges that sometime in April 2009, Ncube acting in connivance with an unknown accomplice from Zimra hatched a plan to defraud the revenue authority after he was contracted by First Pack Marketing to clear their imported goods.
In pursuant of this plan, it is alleged, from September 2009 to April this year he was given several amounts on 24 different occasions and instead of remitting all the money to Zimra Ncube allegedly manufactured fake invoices for the imported goods.
The goods were allegedly undervalued so Zimra could charge less duty. He allegedly pocketed the proceeds.
After fraudulently clearing the goods, it is further alleged, Ncube collected the goods and with the help of his Zimra accomplice he manufactured fake bills of entry and attached correct invoices of imported goods indicating the correct value of goods.
He delivered the goods to First Pack together with fake bills of entry. The offence was discovered by First Pack financial controller Tererayi Jeruze after Zimra made a follow up on outstanding duty for the imported goods which were improperly cleared.
Jeruze made a report that led to Ncube’s arrest.
As a result Zimra suffered a total prejudice of US$100 268 16 and nothing was recovered.
