New York — New York began casting ballots yesterday in a high-stakes presidential primary, with Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump hoping to secure big wins in the race for the White House.
Polls opened at 6:00am (1000 GMT) and closed at 9:00pm (0100 GMT today) in the most consequential primary in decades in the America’s fourth-largest state.
Those eligible to vote include New York’s 5.8 million registered Democrats and 2.7 million registered Republicans. To the disadvantage of Clinton challenger Bernie Sanders, independents are barred from participating. — AFP
