Club Shanga vocalist records jingles

The Environmental Management Agency recently contracted Baramasimbe to record two jingles on veld fire awareness and waste management.
An ecstatic Baramasimbe said he believed this was the beginning of a journey into new territory.
“I’m proud that EMA took recognition of my talent and offered me this life-changing opportunity. I sincerely hope to consolidate my position in the field of advertising besides my full-time job as a musician,” said Baramasimbe.
He said lyrics for the jingles were provided by EMA, and besides being played on national radio, they will be played at awareness campaigns by the agency.
The jingles are also expected to be used in EMA’s television commercials.
Meanwhile, the Marondera-based Club Shanga are set to tour Mozambique next month. Founding member and keyboard player Trust Matombo said yesterday that the group was set to perform at the Music Crossroads inter-regional finals to be held in Maputo.
“We’ve been invited to perform in Maputo as last year’s inter-regional winners after we took the honours in Bagamoyo, Tanzania.
“However, before we leave for Maputo, we are set to perform at the Zimbabwe Music Crossroads national finals to be held this month,” he said.
Matombo revealed that Club Shanga had started working on their second album, which they expect to be released early this year.
He said their first album titled “Fullness of Time” was not well marketed and they were not happy with the sound quality.
Delta Beverages sponsored the first album after Club Shanga also won last year’s Chibuku Road to Fame national competitions, and was recorded at Gramma Records.
“In fact, this is a reloaded version of our first project since we were not happy with the sound quality and marketing.
“We’re sponsoring the second album on our own and will look for promoters and marketers in due course,” said Matombo.
He confirmed that the group’s live DVD that was recorded during their maiden tour of Spain last year was now on sale.
Matombo said the DVD was being marketed by African Music Network that is owned by promoter Mathias Bangure.
Club Shanga is set to tour Holland, Ireland and France later this year in a continuation of their Music Crossroads exchange programme.
