Clubs give Zifa an ultimatum

ZIFA Southern Region Division One clubs have given the regional leadership a five-day ultimatum to set a date for an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

In a letter sent to the Andrew Tapela-led board last Friday and signed by 14 teams out of the 17 clubs, the teams said they want to be given a date for the AGM within five days.

“The region has not held a meeting since 2020. The clubs notice that most resolutions have been made outside congress knowledge hence the need to put things on record.

“The clubs therefore request to be furnished with the AGM date within five days in order to prepare for the meeting expected to be within the month of November,” reads the letter.

Tapela confirmed receipt of the letter.

“We have received the letter signed by the clubs. We have a meeting today (yesterday) with the board to see what action will be taken.

“I am sure we will be in position to give information after we have the meeting,” said Tapela.

The clubs are saying the AGM is long overdue as they began this season without holding one. The region last had an AGM before the Covid-19 outbreak.

The just ended season was not a smooth one as Indonsakusa and Quality Foods threw in the towel because of financial constraints.

Ajax Hotspurs and Zimbabwe Saints failed a couple of times to travel for out-of-town fixtures also citing cash flow problems from their sponsors. Some teams failed to pay match officials.
