BOB90 Super Cup participants, champions Dynamos, losing finalists and semi-finalists Highlanders and Harare City are yet to receive their prizemoney, it has emerged. The final was played at Rufaro Stadium on March 16, with DeMbare beating their Bulawayo rivals Bosso 2-0 through goals from former Highlanders player Masimba Mambare and a gem of a goal from former Monomotapa dribbling wizard Ronald Chitiyo.
As winners, Dynamos were set to get $45,000 while losing finalists Tshilamoya would receive $25,000 with semi-finalists Harare City, beaten 2-1 by Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium set to get $10,000.
However, almost two weeks after the final was staged, the winners are yet to receive their prizemoney.“Nothing has come through at the moment and we have been engaging the organisers over that,” said DeMbare secretary-general Webster Chikengezha.
His words were echoed by Highlanders treasurer Jerry Sibanda.
“We are yet to receive our share but I don’t know about other clubs. I have been in constant touch with the chairman of the organising committee, Stanley Kasukuwere over that and we hope we will receive the money soon,” said Sibanda, a former Highlanders forward.
When contacted for comment yesterday afternoon, the organising committee’s media liaison officer and renowned broadcaster Charles Mabika urged the clubs not to panic because the prizemoney was being processed.
“It’s all under control really. The prize money is being processed as we speak and anytime it should reflect in the clubs’ accounts,” said Mabika.
He blamed what he described as a few bottlenecks for the delay and said it was never their intention to take long to pay the winners.
Last year, the whole process was expeditiously done with the two teams Dynamos and Highlanders receiving their share less than 48 hours after the final, also played at Rufaro Stadium.
