CNN insults Anderson

CAPE TOWN. — While Kevin Anderson’s fourth round US Open tennis tournament win over Andy Murray on Monday was undoubtedly an upset, international broadcasters CNN appeared more shocked than most after referring to the South African as “unknown”. The tweet from the American-based news channel – sent to its Twitter following of 4 096 485 people – is more perplexing given that Anderson lives in Florida and that he played tennis at the University of Illinois before turning professional in 2007.

Anderson is also expecting to be granted US citizenship in the next few months.

But, what makes the CNN tweet even more insulting to Anderson is that he is ranked 14th in the world and has enjoyed a stellar 2015 season.

The 6’8” serving machine won the Winston-Salem Open in the build-up to the US Open and finished runner-up to Murray at Queens before Wimbledon this year.

Anderson also finished runner-up to Kei Nishikori at the US National Indoor Tennis Championships back in February.

But perhaps the most memorable moment of Anderson’s year came at Wimbledon in the form of a two-day, five-set thriller in a fourth round clash against world number one Novak Djokovic.

Anderson came closer than anyone else to defeating the eventual champion in what was the match of the tournament as the tennis world looked on with appreciation. — Sport24.
