A HARARE man, David Jambanja (36), has been charged with murder following the death of his colleague, Tinashe Kapfunde, after a violent altercation over a missing dollar.
Jambanja appeared before Magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for today.
According to court documents, the incident occurred sometime in March.
Jambanja allegedly woke Kapfunde, who was asleep, accusing him of stealing US$1 from their home.
In a fit of rage, Jambanja reportedly assaulted Kapfunde with a cooking stick, striking him repeatedly on the head until the stick broke.
He then used another stick to continue the assault, leaving Kapfunde with severe head injuries.
Kapfunde’s mother, Winnet Mutedza, reported the assault to the police.
He was initially treated at Parirenyatwa Hospital before being discharged to recover at home. However, his condition deteriorated in May.
He was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital and transferred back to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for further treatment.
Tragically, Kapfunde passed away on May 14, at around 8 pm.
