BEN Curran has made his late father proud after winning a call-up to play for the Chevrons against Afghanistan — according to his brother Sam.

Twelve years after their father Kevin collapsed and died while jogging in Mutare, at the age of 53, one of his sons will play for the country he starred for and also coached.

Kevin was part of the first ODI national team after Independence.

Sam and Tom chose to play for England while Ben, 28, will play for Zimbabwe.

Through his X account, Sam said Ben has made their father proud with his achievement.

“Such special news, couldn’t be happier for you BC (Ben Curran).

“Someone will be looking down with a huge smile on their face today,” he posted.

Ben received his maiden call-up to the Chevrons squad for their series against Afghanistan, which gets underway with the T20Is, today.

Ben was named in the One Day International (ODI) squad.

He is one of the three-changes to the team that faced Pakistan in Bulawayo last week.

Ben’s maiden call-up to the national team comes as no surprise.

The 28-year-old has been in scintillating form in domestic cricket.

In his four List A innings this season, Curran has scored a century and two half-centuries.

His latest half-century came against Southern Rocks last Thursday, where he made 53 runs off 72 balls.

Ben’s century came against Tuskers, scoring a brilliant 125 off 130 deliveries.

He boasts  an impressive average of 64.50.

As the series gets underway today, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have announced that Jonathan Trott will continue as the team’s head coach until the end of 2025.

He will, however, be available for the ODI matches against Zimbabwe but will not take charge in the other formats for personal reasons.
