Popular comedian Jeffrey Chikwesere popularly known as Aphiri in the entertainment industry has returned with a new project. Aphiri, is who is well known for his roles in most of Kapfupi dramas has joined hands with some artistes from Epworth’s Domboramwari area to form the group Dombo United Artists that has released a track titled “Let’s unite Zimbabwe”.
In an interview, Aphiri said he has decided to show his fans the other side of him.
“As an artist I believe I am jack of all trades in the arts industry. I have done music before and this time I have decided to go national by doing music that has something to do with the country issues, in this case unity,” he said.
The group’s manager Rashid “Chide” Kambalami said the song which is accompanied by a DVD is in different African languages including Nyanja, Chewa, Tswana and Shona. There are also English lines on the track.
“We have decided to incorporate different African languages so that we also cater for our neighbouring countries since we are not saying only Zimbabwe must unite but instead the whole of Africa,” said Kambalami.
Meanwhile, Aphiri is working on a new comedy drama “Anganga in Zimbabwe” which features Malawian comedian Ennock Chitemwe.
The film is set to hit the big screens in January next year.
Together with Kapfupi, Aphiri brought street theatre to limelight in Zimbabwe and made headlines after their comic drama series was screened ZBC TV before the actors went separate ways.
Aphiri was well-known for his “Kuuraya munhu” comic line that became popular with many comedy lovers.
Aphiri maintains that they are in good books with Kapfupi saying he was supposed to be part of their project but failed due to other commitments.
“We are still good friends and in fact he was supposed to be part of “Anganga in Zimbabwe” but because of other commitments that needed his attention he failed to make it,” he said.
