THE Zimbabwe National Army will this week hold its annual Commander’s Schools Merit Sports Gala at One Brigade.
It is an annual sports festival and eight different disciplines — rugby, basketball, football, volleyball, cricket, chess, athletics and netball have been lined up.
Brian Muchero, the public relations officer of the gala said that the event is going to attract a total of 11 primary and five secondary schools.
“The event will attract a total 17 army schools, with 12 primary and five secondary taking part,” said Muchero.
The schools expected to feature in the sports festival are Indlovu Iyanyathela, Induna, Magunje, Two Brigade, Three Brigade, Masvingo, Ngezi, Inkomo, Presidential Guard, Mbalabala, Parachute Regiment and Imbizo Garrison primary schools while in the secondary school category Induna, Magwegwe, Ngezi, Inkomo and Masvingo.
Muchero said that the sports gala which was launched in 2010 has for the past years been used as a platform to identify and nurture talent within the army.
“The sporting event has been used as a platform to identify and nurture talent of the youngsters,” said Muchera.
Muchero encouraged the public to come and support the youngsters and described previous games as fun-filled and action-packed.
