THE Organisation for Rural Associations for Progress (Orap) has partnered with the country’s football motherbody Zifa in a sports development programme that is meant to eradicate poverty.Bryton Malandule, Orap’s chief financial officer, confirmed this yesterday at a graduation ceremony at Milton Junior Primary School.
He said they were in partnership with Zifa in a programme which is called Shooting for Education and Development (Shed) which aims to develop and eradicate poverty in communities starting from grassroots level with primary schools.
Orap donated 600 Chevrolet size four indestructible balls to primary schools around Bulawayo at the graduation ceremony in which primary school coaches graduated with Level One coaching certicates.
Malandule said Orap was working in partnership with Chevrolet and One World Football to curb the problem of sports poverty and they were going to distribute more football equipment like football boots and training bibs to various primary schools.
“Orap is in partnership with Chevrolet and One World Football in a campaign to curb the problem of poverty in sports and we have started with 600 footballs, we will continue supplying primary schools with other football equipment, “he said.
Zifa vice president Omega Sibanda advised the graduates to use their certificates and knowledge to improve the standard of football.
“We as Zifa Southern Region we are honoured to work with Orap in this football development campaign,” he said.
In the football development programme, Orap works with Zifa in training primary school teachers to be coaches through the Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association and when the coaches graduate with certificates, Orap donates football equipment to the respective primary schools.
Sibanda said more development programmes were needed especially in rural areas and was confident that these programmes would improve the standard of football in the country.
“We need more development programmes especially in the rural areas where poverty is felt most,” he said.
