MATABELELAND North is on the cusp of a significant transformation, driven by several major capital projects spearheaded by the Government under the Second Republic.
These initiatives are not only addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps but also unlocking the province’s economic potential, marking a new era of growth and development.
The flagship Lake Gwayi-Shangani project, rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway, and construction of the Lupane Provincial Hospital are central to the Government’s devolution and inclusive development agenda.
These projects are expected to be completed this year, bringing much-needed relief to residents and boosting the local economy.
Lake Gwayi-Shangani Dam is a transformative water infrastructure project designed to supply water to Bulawayo, irrigate vast tracts of land, and support industrial, agricultural, and mining activities.

With a monthly disbursement of US$5 million, the project is expected to be completed by August this year.
Rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway, a strategic transport corridor, is progressing well, with 38 kilometres completed under the first phase.
The project is expected to significantly boost tourism inflows, ease movement of goods and services, and enhance road safety.
Lupane Provincial Hospital is a key development, with an to improve access to quality healthcare, decongest major referral institutions, and bring specialist health services closer to communities.
These projects demonstrate the Government’s commitment to equitable development, as outlined in the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and Vision 2030.
The initiatives are expected to create employment opportunities, enhance food security, and stimulate local economies.
