Commissioner General of Zimbabwe Republic Police Retires

HARARE, Zimbabwe – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has retired Commissioner General Tandabantu Godwin Matanga from his position as the head of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, effective 31 December 2024.

The announcement was made through a press statement issued by Dr Martin Rushwaya, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, on 20 December 2024. The decision is in accordance with Section 340(1)(f) and Section 221(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

The statement confirmed that Commissioner General Matanga will conclude his duties at the end of the year.

This marks the end of Commissioner General Matanga’s tenure as the highest-ranking police officer in the country, a role he has held since his appointment in 2018.
