Committee to work on issues raised at stakeholders’ conference

and chief rapporteurs would refine the report that was compiled by the Copac ad-hoc technical committee after the conference. The forum is expected to present the report to the full select committee on Monday.

“When we received the report from the technical committee we realised we were too many so we decided to streamline the team which would then report to the full select committee on Monday,” said Copac co-chairperson Cde Paul Mangwana (Zanu-PF). He said the forum would be guided by the views expressed by delegates at the Second All Stakeholders conference.

“Where delegates agreed that we should retain the draft as it is, we will not tamper with it but we will also look at areas where they agreed to make changes. On issues where they did not agree, we will forward those to our superiors who will deal with the issues,” said Cde Mangwana.
His MDC counterpart, Mr Edward Mkhosi, said the forum would work with the ad-hoc technical committee in auditing their report and what people said during the conference.

“We are auditing the report with the technical committee to make sure there is justification for the co-option of whatever people said at the conference.
“We are also identifying areas where there were no agreements so that the full select committee can give recommendations on the way forward.
“After we have presented the report to the select committee we will then take it to the management committee,” said Mr Mkhosi.

The Copac acting national coordinator said the chairperson forum was created to expedite the auditing process.
“After the report has been customised, it will then be taken to the higher bodies maybe on Monday or Tuesday next week. This forum has been created to expedite the process,” he said.

Officially opening the Second All Stakeholders Conference, President Mugabe said Copac was supposed to capture everything that delegates said.
He said Principals were interested in the constitution making process because they were the ones who initiated the idea of coming up with a constitution.

From the thematic presentations at the conference, differences that already existed were evident as delegates gave divergent views on presidential powers, succession issues and the security sector among others.
