Communities urged to complement infrastructure development drive

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister, Kindness Paradza has challenged communities to complement Government’s infrastructure development drive towards attainment of Vision 2030.

Deputy Minister Paradza made the remarks at Mapfungwe Secondary School in Makonde constituency where he is also the area’s legislator.

“We are the ones who can build our area. It’s not the responsibility of the Member of Parliament and Government alone. Let’s work together to attainment Vision 2030 as espoused by President Mnangagwa,” he said.

His call followed efforts by Mr Anesu Daka, a benefactor of the school, who has helped construct a classroom block and sunk a borehole while construction of another block is on course.

Pupils learnt from makeshift structures which made learning difficulty during rainy season while unavailability of potable water threatened the health of learners.

“While we have nearly completed construction of this block, I am glad to announce that material for another block and for solar system to power the borehole is in place. So in the next few days construction of a second classroom block and teachers houses is expected,” he said.

Daka, a chartered accountant by profession, is a presidential scholarship beneficiary.

He organised a golf tournament held in Harare a few months ago where the proceeds have seen a classroom block being completed, a borehole being sunk and building materials for other blocks and teachers’ houses being delivered.

Teachers at the school lauded the development, saying it was going to help retain staff.

Mr Giveus Use, the school headmaster, said they were glad for the gesture as makeshift structures were used as learning facilities.

A villager, Mr Leonard Tachiona, said the development was a surprise to every villager in the area.

The development which complements government’s drive was welcomed by the local community and school authorities.

The facelift has seen Mapfungwe Secondary School get an examination centre status from this year following the provision of examination papers safe keeping equipment.
