Tensions are running high in Khalanyoni village, located in the Matabeleland South province, as community members express their anger towards Kwanele Mkwebu and her husband Thabani Ngwenya.
The couple is facing accusations of unfairly distributing food aid, which has led to widespread discontent among residents.

The controversy began when Ngwenya, who was tasked with overseeing the distribution of food aid, was accused of favoring certain individuals.
A community member, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their frustrations, stating, “We are angry at the couple because they deceived us with their unfair distribution of food aid. We recently staged a demonstration at their homestead, but when we arrived, we found they had escaped.”
The situation has escalated as more villagers come forward with claims that the couple has been prioritizing individuals who are working in South Africa and Botswana over local residents in need.
Another villager commented, “It’s unacceptable that food meant for the community is being distributed to those who are not even here. We are struggling, and they are taking advantage of the situation.”
The villagers are now calling for accountability and demanding that the couple return to the village to address the allegations.
Another villager revealed that they had since reported the couple to the controversial Forever Associate Zimbabwe (FAZ), am arm of the ruling Zanu-PF party who have vowed to also investigate the couple.
“We have heard the complaint against this couple and we will continue looking for them,” said a FAZ member.
As the community continues to seek justice, the atmosphere remains charged with anger and disappointment over the perceived betrayal by Mkwebu and Ngwenya.
